LOCAL TATTOO ARTIST EDITION

By Locals, For Locals

Carlsberg celebrates Sabah & Sarawak Pride by collaborating with local tattoo artists Carlos Benny and Ernesto Kalum. We blended their bold ink styles to bring our favorite icons to life. Aramaiti and Ooo-Haa!

“To see my culture evolve and travel and spread, it really makes me proud.”
~Carlos Benny Majakil

To raise the stage for local tattoo art, Carlos founded the Sabah International Tattoo Convention. Travelling the globe for years to hone his craft, he has often been stopped by passersbys interested in his tattoos – to which he gladly takes the opportunity to share his proud heritage.

“You could say tattoos are a way of life. They signify each individual’s path.”
~Ernesto Kalum Umpie

Never forgetting his roots, Ernesto has preserved the traditional art of hand-tapped tattoos and brought that art form to conventions worldwide. Just drop by his studio, Borneo Headhunter on Wayang Street, and he’ll tell you the stories behind each striking tribal motif.
